FOR / PRO / DUCT
Envision

Presso Spazio Rossana Orlandi
6(mon)-12(sun) June 2022

Design by Kaori Akiyama / STUDIO BYCOLOR

Mitsubishi Engineering-Plastics Corporation will be exhibiting a collection featuring a new material of sophisticated polycarbonate resin developed by the company at Milan Design Week 2022 from June 6 (Mon) to 12 (Sun). The exhibition will showcase a material table KONOHA (*1), a wearable material sample GEKKA, and a color sample KIHANA (*2) designed by STUDIO BYCOLOR whose work draws out the authenticity of colors and materials. This innovative material can retain its durability while applying colors, pearls, lamé, and other luminous elements to the base material through exclusive technology. This collection is a communication tool developed to communicate the fascination of the material to everyone engaged in the design industry. Furthermore, it is a material with futuristic potential for reduc- ing CO2 and VOC emissions by eliminating the painting process that is conventionally required. It has received numerous design awards and is drawing attention from worldwide audiences as an outstand- ing commodity. The installation 'FOR / PRO / DUCT' examines the future of manufacturing and designing from the foundation (=materials) at Gallery Rossana Orlandi, home of the "Guilt-less Plastic" activity at Milan Design Week. We hope that you will experience a sense of innovative technology designed to address future directions in the long history of design through this installation.

Design by Yoshiki Matsuyama

As if the presence of the single whale in the dark cold ocean surrounded by silence, can bring calmness and warmth to the heart. As if the passing of the time itself has slowly changed. "Cachalot" is a sculptual lighting object that draws inspiration from the formative elements of in nature.

Design by Hiroto Yoshizoe

The use of fire has led to the rapid evolution of human civilization.  People gather, pray, eat, and talk around it, as if a magnetic field has been built up since the ancient times.  I think that rethinking fire and rethinking light is synonymous with rethinking human life.

New Models with Elegant Forest Green Hands Appear in the "W' Series

Design by Satoshi Wada, an Automotive Designer

Using "forest green" as the design concept, Satoshi Wada imbued these new watches with his memories of Christmas in Germany when he was with Audi, to make them special. The green hands, inspired by fir trees, give an accent to the white and pale gray faces, which evoke a mystical scene of a German town covered deep with fresh fallen snow on Christmas. The belt of cold-dyed, tanned leather becomes softer with use, fitting the wrist more comfortably as you wear the watch longer. The elegant white regular models and the chic gray limited-edition models will be released at the same time. The latter are available only in Japan in a limited quantity of 300 watches for each model, embodying Wada's specialthought toward the new models.

New Compact Cordless Lamp - Xtal

Design by Ryu Kozeki

Ambientec Corporation is pleased to announce the worldwide launch of a new cordless lamp, the Xtal, featuring a compact design for personal use, on September 18, 2015.

Like our popular Bottled cordless lamps, Xtal incorporates a rechargeable battery, eliminating the need for a power cord, and enabling people to use it anywhere they like. The design is elegantly simple. Created by famous Japanese designer, Ryu Kozeki, this stylish lamp looks just like a glass, subtly hinting at how it is meant to be used. Before becoming a commercial product, the Xtal was presented at the Spazzio Rossana Orlandi, one of the top design galleries in Milan, during Milan Design Week in April 2015. The double-sided LED developed originally by Ambientec irradiates light in all directions, enabling the Xtal to produce beautiful and effective illumination despite its compact size. The marvelous shimmering and extensive illumination are made possible by a metallic reflector with a smoothly curved surface combined with hand-cut solid glass and three-step brightness control. The Xtal has also been designed to be waterproof, making it flexible and reliable enough for use in a wide range of existing and new applications appropriate for cable-free lighting equipment, including professional applications in hotels, restaurants, resorts, and even in aircraft where the use of candles is not possible.

ISSEY MIYAKE

A new series in the ISSEY MIYAKE watch collection

Design by Tokujin Yoshioka

Reations by Tokujin Yoshioka. Started from the design of a watch bracelet, the concept breaks from the convention of watch-and-band configuration. The result is the first “bracelet watch” of its kind.

The vision comes from a naturally stylish bracelet created by cutting a tube with a basic pattern into circular slices. Each simplified band radiates brilliance, yet with different expressions. The package is made with the same concept, by cutting an aluminum cylinder with a similar pattern as the watch. It can serve as an artful watchcase or as a container for small items. By looking at watch manufacturing from a different angle, Tokujin Yoshioka has created a “watch” that is more lovely and natural – the design approach unique to Tokujin Yoshioka.

“Passion Yellow” Model Appears in the “W” Series

Design by Satoshi Wada

“Passion Yellow,” for an active, elegant look, is added to the full-size models, while “Winter Pink,” emphasizing womanly sparkle and distinction, joins the mini-size models. New “Winter Black” models using an urban, monotone coloration are also available in both sizes.

Cool and restrained, dynamically vivid, and brightly feminine – these new color models expand the range of choices in the “W” series you can make to add color to your seasonal wardrobe.

New Chic Color Models Appear in the “TO” Series

Design by Tokujin Yoshioka

Models with leather bands in chic colors, such as blue and light gray, join those in the generally neutral colors – predominantly silver and black – of the “TO” series. At the same time, in order to maintain the visual subtlety of “TO,” the colored, real leather bands are coated with polyurethane to tame their natural luster, redirecting attention to the stainless steel case and highlighting the beauty of the watch as a whole. These new models will further expand your choices in ISSEY MIYAKE’s “TO” series.

Bottled

Design by Ryu Kozeki

Bottled is a rechargeable cordless lamp that can be used anywhere. It looks as if light is contained within a bottle. A glass shade and a handle together make a seamless solid body, and this design was born rather naturally from the idea of creating a handy, portable lamp while making the most of the LED’s heat dissipation characteristics. Its simple means of operation also makes the lamp very easy to use. While diffusing soft light through the shade with a special coating on the inside, this high-quality lamp emphasises the sheen and clarity of the glass by fully embracing the texture of the material.

SIWA - URUSHI

Design by Naoto Fukasawa

For the past 6 years, ONAO, a Japanese washi paper manufacturer located in Ichikawadaimon, Yamanashi Prefecture, an area with a history of washi production spanning a thousand years, has worked with industrial designer Naoto Fukasawa (who hails from Yamanashi) to develop the SIWA series, a range of daily items that expand the possibilities of paper. This season, we have created items with urushi (lacquer) stenciled on them. Patterns have been stenciled onto Naoron, a strong Japanese washi developed by ONAO. The patterns have been in Japan since early times; the floral pattern is of Japanese spirea and signifies perpetual youth and longevity, while the geometrical flax leaf pattern represents mental and ancestral balance. Stenciling urushi onto SIWA makes it even stronger and lends it a new countenance.

Transparent, Blue Models “O” Models Appear

Design by Tokujin Yoshioka

Released in 2011, the “O” (eau, French for water) series is designed by Yoshioka based on the theme “Shape of water – Watch that counts transparent time.” Being made from transparent materials, Yoshioka’s favorite, the watch has no “shape” like water, and shines momentarily like light. The “O” is a bangle watch weighing only 25 grams, and perfect for casual wear as a fashion accessory.

The two models being released are clear light blue, the color of fresh water, and deep blue, the color of the sea. Each will add a cool, smart accent as you bare your arms in seasonal summer clothing.

PLEASE

Design by Jasper Morrison

Watches in the new series PLEASE – as well as the series name – are inspired by the colorful, unique pleated clothing in the ISSEY MIYAKE apparel collection, a fashion line called PLEATS PLEASE ISSEY MIYAKE. As with the clothing, the concept of the PLEASE watches is to integrate the highest level of design into products for everyday life.

The dial and urethane band characterizing PLEASE are three-dimensional in a manner suggesting pleated folds – dynamic, light and delicate. The stainless steel case and hands are hairline finished to further set PLEASE off as a sophisticated adult-casual watch.

New collection

design: Satoshi Wada

The powerful and dynamic case is inspired by an aluminium wheel of a car and the long hands indicate the time on its precise gauge-like dial. The concept is explained by the designer - “ I designed this watch to reflect the minimal mind based onthe traditional aesthetic sense of Japan.

Aiming for returning to basics of Japanese traditional arts, I proposed a new type of chronograph watch started in Japan.”

The features of this quartz watch, the second hand moving like an automatic watch and the button click feeling, will surely please man’s fun-loving nature

the new series "GO"

designed by Naoto Fukasawa

ISSEY MIYAKE watch project now includes new series “GO” designed by Naoto Fukasawa, the tenth model in the watch project produced by ISSEY MIYAKE.

The rounded square form of the GO watches is a slight squaring of the round go stone (a traditional Japanese board game). Picked up and played with the fingers, go stones are welcome to the touch and make you feel good when handling them.  Just a glance at these new watches tells you they must feel good!  I have produced a most satisfying design, both tactilely and visually.  Figures on the dial mirror the same rounded square of the case. Either leather or metal bands can be used.

10° anniversario del Progetto Orologi ISSEY MIYAKE

Release of Special Model Celebrating 10th Anniversary of ISSEY MIYAKE Watch Project

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the project, a special model designed by Tokujin Yoshioka will open up a new direction in watch design.  Its concept is “Shape of Water – Transparent Time.” The name is “O” (eau, French for water). Using clear material, a favorite of Yoshioka’s, it is a watch without shape, like water, emitting instantaneous radiance, like light.
